Latest news from BlackBerry® Keynote Event, May 2013

The BlackBerry® Live keynote event 2013 has begun in Orlando, Florida this week, and a number of exciting announcements have already been made from the event:

New BlackBerry® Q5 device

The launch of a new BB®10 device aimed at the lower-end market has been announced, with a planned launch into selected markets, including the UK. The device is similar in appearance to the Q10 and features a QWERTY keyboard which has been revolutionised from that of the traditional
New Blackberry Q5
BlackBerry® devices, with discrete keys that have been re-engineered and designed to allow faster, more accurate typing with the least amount of effort. Instant Action shortcuts allow users to type to perform tasks faster. Additional highlights of the device include BlackBerry® Time Shift mode and Story Maker, BBM® Video with Screen Share, BlackBerry® World and BlackBerry® Hub.

No suggested pricing has yet been announced for the device, but is set to be available in a variety of colours across multiple networks from July 2013.

BBM available cross platform!

BBM to be available for iOS and Android

In the first release version of multi-platform BBM, iOS and Android users are expected to be able to experience the following BBM features:

  • BBM immediate chat
  • Multi-person chats
  • Voice note sharing
  • BlackBerry Groups, where BBM users are able to set up groups of up to 30 people and share calendar, photos,  and files. 

This service is set to launch in summer 2013.
